Best movie soundtrack ever.

Best movie soundtrack ever.

Our short Easter Vacation down in Florida came to an end on Tuesday. I flew with the family back to JFK and then they took a car service home while I hopped on a plane to Seattle.  Little did I know I would face a three hour delay at the airport before takeoff.  I arrived in Seattle at 4am NY time and had to be up a few hours later to start conducting some consumer interviews.  Sleeping was not an issue except for the fact it was interrupted by work.

I have never spent 3 days in Downtown Seattle before; usually my business takes me to Kirkland and I am usually only there for an afternoon.  Below are some observations based on my Seattle immersion.  Be sure to add yours if you have any.

  • It is the rule, rather than the exception, that people bring their dogs to work. Adam Carolla would have a field day walking around Seattle.
  • When it rains, no one but the out of towers use umbrellas. If you use an umbrella you get stared at as if you are a king douche.
  • They take their coffee very seriously here.  I thought Starbucks was pretentious until I visited  a local bakery and it took me 20 minutes to figure out how to order a simple black coffee. I now know to say, “Drip coffee, no sugar, no room at the top.”
  • None of the consumers I interviewed this week claim to eat pre-packaged foods or eat at fast food chains. Yeah, right. That explains why the Red Robin down the street is always thumpin at lunch time.
  • I don’t see the appeal of watching grown men throw fish.  Imagine if we did this with other dead foodstuffs? I personally would love to see dudes throwing dead chickens (but only if they had large talons).
  • They take their wine very seriously here but Washington State’s Sauvignon Blanc is no where near as good as New Zealand’s.

Have you spent any time in Seattle? Anything to add?
